I hit the "Compact" button prematurely, and everything from my inbox was filtered (which is great). But I need to see filter logs to see what I may have missed.

Going through the GUI, all I get is an enable button, clear logs button and close on the Filter Logs window. Nothing else in this window.

Going through the filesystem, my filterlog.html files all stopped last year. December, 19 2025, to be precise.

Why might this be? Seems like a pretty important debugging feature.

I presume your enable checkbox is activated.... note this is a feature of Thunderbird itself, so it's not something quickFilters has implemented or is interfering with. you should see the latest actions at the bottom, as new actions are appended.

just in case you have multiple profiles, check from Thunderbird via Help → Troubleshooting Information → Profile Folder → Open Folder.

AS you said there are multiple filterlog.html files (one in each account) - you could try disabling, doing a single run filter and then enable again. I did a bit of poling around and apparently this is stored in msgFilterrules.dat (same location as the filterlog.html files, in the root of each account)

Oh, interesting, thanks. So, it should be in a textbox in that same window? Nope, nothing. I tried resizing the window to all extremes (in case it's some weird drawing issue). I have everything in that window except the actual scrollable textbox of logs. Can you normally select text in that box? I tried dragging mouse around, just in case my dark theme could have been an issue (black on black or something weird). Nothing.

Yes, got to the directory through GUI. My msgFilterRules.dat file was last modified June 17. And it looks complete (hundreds of rules, here).

So, I sorted files by modification date to maybe get a clue about any other changes from that time period. Had to go back a couple of directories doing the same, and found logins.db and logins.json that were modified 12/20/25 (a day later)... It looks like that was when I added a gmail account to TB. Unsure if that would have anything to do with it.

My main account inbox'es filterlog.html is at 11MB. Seems like an odd size to cause trouble, but.... maybe. Frankly, it seems small for being a log from 04/2022 to 12/2026. I keep things always out of my main server's imap inbox, just as a general security measure. Not sure when exactly that log is written (like, right when filter is applied, or when Compact is pressed, but I am pressing Compact tens of times per day).

I will update TB, and if that does not jiggle something loose, I will move/touch this file to see if that helps.

But, I am appreciating that this is looking more like a TB issue than a QF issue. Thanks for the info... it helped. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if you closed this ticket.

Yeah I just wanted to suggest to update Thunderbird to ESR140.12esr if you are on the ESR release train, maybe that fixes it. Are you on a Linux distro (e.g. Ubuntu)?

Generally it's a good idea to stay on the ESR branch because Thunderbird plans to discontinue legacy (experimental) Add-ons on the monthly release channel (currently 152.0) in 2027. I am still supporting 140+ with new versions of quickFilters.
