Should Speechrecognition.start() recommend user activation?

Given Speechrecognition.start may show a microphone prompt, it might be nice to recommend checking for user activation.
It might be too late given this API shipped for a long time but it seems worth exploring anyway.

That sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure if this can be accomplished in a way that maintains backwards compatibility. Are there any precedents for introducing breaking changes to improve user safety?
