Hi @anujk3 , thanks for the report. This is expected behavior right now, though I agree it's worth improving.

setup-local edits your pyproject.toml in place while preserving everything else exactly (comments, formatting, ordering). To do that safely it scans the file line by line rather than fully parsing the TOML, and it can't reliably tell apart real config from text inside a multi-line string ("""...""" or '''...'''). So when it sees one, it refuses rather than risk corrupting the file — even when the string is a perfectly valid field like a multi-line description that's nowhere near what it needs to edit.

Your file is valid; this is a limitation on our side, and blocking on a triple-quote anywhere in the file is too broad. I'll look into making the merge multi-line-string-aware so cases like this go through.

Workaround for now: apply the two managed edits by hand — set requires-python under [project], and add the [tool.uv] constraints — or temporarily convert the multi-line string to a single-line one, run setup-local, then restore it.
