eclean-kernel deletes files outside of /boot

There is a serious bug/issue when eclean decides to remove files without checking if they point to somewhere else, it deleted my entire /usr/src/linux-6.18.8-gentoo-dist-hardened folder when I asked -n 5 (it logged because vmlinuz is missing), and those are newest kernel files on my machine.

This happened when my gentoo-kernel installation failed because of out of space on boot, so I run eclean-kernel and now I have to rebuild kernel package since eclean deleted my system files for it.

What do you mean by "point to somewhere else"? It's expected that it cleans up the built files (which depclean won't do) as well as /lib/modules as those are in UNINSTALL_IGNORE.

It shouldn't delete parts of currently intalled package. This is called installed package state corruption, not a feature.

Are you saying it should remove built files (.o, etc.) only and leave the source files installed by the package? How would that be helpful?

Wow, let's pause for a second here. Let's figure out definition of helpful:

1. build package
   emerge gentoo-kernel
   Kernel installation to boot failed, because no space left on /boot, but gentoo-kernel itself is installed
2. eclean-kernel -n 5 to remove old kernels from boot. eclean-kernel tells something about vmlinuz and deteled my /usr/src/ files of newly merged latest kernel as well.
3. emerge --config gentoo-kernel error: /usr/src/linux-xxx is not found
4. rebuild gentoo-kernel again to fix package, because eclean-kernel corrupted previous merge
   emerge gentoo-kernel (waiting for 20-40 minutes depending on hardware)

Did I understood correctly, that this is the definition of helpful here?
