[Bug]: Low video quality on 1440p screen

Describe the bug

When I record a video with openscreen, on my 1440p monitor, I selected the whole screen, and recorded a video, It came out pretty low quality instead of being 1440p.

Expected behavior

It should be a 1440p video, the resolution shows 1440p but the quality isnt like how 1440p is.

I'm using hyprland (wayland) with noctalia shell. I'm using the desktop app to record this.

Hey @xevrion — thanks for the report and for sharing the recording 🙏

I watched your capture and honestly the overall quality looks fine to me. The pixelated section you're pointing at is actually a zoom on your presentation — that's expected behavior. When the source content is scaled up, edges and text get blocky by design, that's not something the recorder is doing wrong.

If you're still seeing quality drops outside of the zoom moments, happy to dig in — just send another short clip showing the issue and ideally the recording settings you used (bitrate, encoder, frame rate). On Hyprland + Wayland, the capture pipeline can sometimes cap the bitrate lower than what's ideal for a clean 1440p recording.

Hey, unfortunatly the preview isn't available anymore.
In fact, several factors could explain this issue; we would need to analyze the video file to find out more.
It's possible that the pipeline is less stable on Linux; we have far fewer users on that platform, and since the operating systems are very diverse, performance can vary.

Yup, I myself was looking for other ways to make the pipeline more stable and work for all the linux distros, will get back with results once something actually works well
