A new version of ASE was released earlier this year (2024) for the first time in nearly three years. A lot of the functionality has changed and several features that had been planned for deprecation were duly deprecated.
We should update functions that rely on ASE so that they work with the new version and issue DeprecationWarnings for old syntax or method calls where needed.
