It’s a valid struggle. But what I keep noticing is how rarely anyone talks about what it means to actually be with themselves before trying to be with someone else.

In my own experience, learning to be okay on my own—not just tolerating solitude, but actually finding value in my own company—completely shifted how I approached dating. When I stopped chasing connection from a place of lack or restlessness, I started attracting people who genuinely wanted to be part of what I had going on, not people who were just filling space.

It makes me wonder:

Why is it so uncommon for people to sit with themselves, do some self-reflection, or get curious about their patterns before diving headfirst into dating? Is the discomfort of being alone that unbearable—or is it just not something most people are taught to explore?

I’m genuinely curious, not trying to judge anyone’s path. I just find it interesting how doing the inner work can feel so rare in conversations about dating struggles, even though (in my opinion) it’s one of the biggest factors in creating something real and healthy.

   submitted by /u/jayb20133
[link] [odgovori]

Why do so many people avoid doing inner work before entering the dating world?

So a year ago I went to drink a few beers with a good friend of mine. I have no job, no friends, no driver's license, hobbies, goals, ambitions, passions, a bad credit score of 450(went down when I had additional debt due to a collections account), I have no savings. I have way too many addictions such as fast food, Reddit, YouTube, Discord, pornography, masturbation, Instagram, etc. Porn and masturbation are my hardest addiction to break and I have been addicted to that since I was 12 years old. Porn and masturbation is very, very, very difficult to stop for me. I also dropped out of college as a third year junior student studying finance because I don't have any future there at all. I left with completing 75 credits out of 120 credits and a total of a 2.6 cumulative GPA with 5 W grades/withdrawals on my transcript. I dropped some classes and it wasn't worth it at that time. My own parents, siblings and even God himself hates my guts. I also developed some weird mental health condition that seems to make it harder for me to focus and develop a good plan for self-improvement for me. I am such a failure of a man. I don't even know how I am 25 and my life is this damaged. It's such a shame. I am so sad that I can't do anything. I was suggested to go to the military but that won't work because I had about two suicide attempts on my record. I have this extremely weird depersonalization condition which is completely fucking up my cognitive functioning and making it harder for me to accomplish my goals in life. And I'm on my laptop.

Out of the corner of my eye I see a big-ish spider in the adjacent corner to where I am, so bottom left of my room, roughly a meter and a half from where I'm sitting.

Not a fan of spiders so I watch the spider for a bit as it seems to walk diagonally towards the top right corner of my room. And this goes on for maybe 3 seconds?

And then suddenly the spider turns around and stops for a second, and then proceeds to make a beeline towards me, like full on sprinting.

Freaked out, I step backwards, so towards the top right of my room, roughly 80ish cm I'd say? To get out of the way.

Here's the thing though, this spider keeps making a beeline until it gets to the exact middle of where I was sitting. And then once it gets there it stops for a second, and then just... Slowly walks in a straight line towards the wall.

Why did it do all that???

It was like I fucking idk... Got into it's attack range or something and it decided to charge at me.

To this day I've yet to have another spider do that to me, even when they've been much closer, so can anyone tell me wtf was going on with that spider?

I can't remember too much, but I think the spider might've been a wolf spider? Lots of thick ass mucus. It’s pretty miserable. Last night I was having this dream where the government poisoned everybody and I couldn’t breathe suddenly. I started audibly choking. Moving my head side to side and coughing up this nasty shit and blood in my dream. It was pretty scary and I started panicking. These people were just staring at me blankly as I slowly choked to death and drowned in my own fluids begging for help.

Suddenly I wake up and my pillow and my hair are covered in fucking nasty slimy mucus (thankfully the blood part was only within the dream). I guess in my dream when I was moving my head side to side, I was really doing that in real life as I struggled to breathe. It made me realize, when you hear about people ODing on heroin or dying in their sleep drunk from choking in their vomit, that must be kind of how it happens. I did pop a few muscle relaxers last night to knock me out because I could not fall asleep and I ran out of emergency Xanax, maybe that is why this happened.

Could I have actually died? That would definitely be a pretty shitty way to go.
