Ask people to share their successes or struggles in the last week. And wait an awkwardly long time for them to respond, if need be.

I also find that asking the group questions frequently helps to keep people involved. Sometimes the questions are as simple as, "has everyone heard of YYY?" or "Does anyone here have experience with YYY?". This can also help the people in the group realize that they are not the only ones who had no idea what YYY was. It also avoids us skimming by a term that people are unfamiliar with and lets people know they should ask if they don't know a term that is used.

Would be nice for the leader to maybe send out a meeting summary / followup message (questions that could not be addressed or links that were talked about and promised to be sent).

Use the meeting logistics (number of people who came / pictures/ etc) as promotional material for next lesson / invite.

Also, a followup thank you with maybe a super short feedback survey on what kind of lesson would be preferred / things that need to be improved or was the level of the lesson correctly categorized. The feedback of course is something nice to do the first few times only.
