Could you, in addition to tags, do use the release feature? It would help with tools like renovate to show some changelog in the merge request that it is generating and probably also with some other things, which I do not know about.
It currently looks like this:

Instead of for example this:
To create releases in the Github UI, it is just a single click, if you are purely using git, it could be a github action that adds this kind of value, if you want it. That is even something I could do.
But first I'd like to know, What do you think about it?
