Possibly generalize some of the code for dealing with repeated resources?

In #90, I opted to repeat some functions for each resource. I explored generalizing them and pushed a9a889e to a separate branch for reference. I thought maybe it is better to explore this after we have converted more resources/columns to see how much can be shared and how much is unique to judge whether these generalized functions are worth having?

These could possibly be broken out into the general data processing library shears.
