Fixes #15816

Multi-channel waveforms were flattened and encoded with a stereo frame layout. A 5.1 input therefore produced three times as many stereo samples, making previews three times longer and play at one-third speed.

This preserves the real channel layout with planar PyAV frames. FLAC and Opus retain all channels, while MP3 keeps its mono/stereo output and lets the encoder downmix multi-channel frames.

Tests:

  • 6 audio regression tests passed (mono, stereo, 5.1, and adjacent MP3 conversions)
  • 120 comfy_api tests passed, 1 skipped
  • Real issue AAC round trip: 5.1, 48 kHz, 15.488 seconds before and after
  • Full unit suite: 1398 passed, 17 skipped; 2 unrelated Windows MIME classification failures for PPM/PGM/PBM

Treat AGENTS.md as mandatory repository policy, not optional style guidance.
Flag PR changes that violate AGENTS.md even when the code is otherwise functional.
In particular, enforce architecture boundaries, dtype/device/memory rules,
interface contracts, import style, no unnecessary try/except blocks, no inline
imports, no outbound internet paths in core ComfyUI, and narrow scoped fixes.
Prefer direct findings over suggestions when a rule is violated. Only ignore
AGENTS.md when it clearly conflicts with a newer explicit maintainer instruction
in the PR.
Do NOT flag pre-existing issues in code that was merely moved, re-indented,
de-indented, or reformatted without logic changes. If code appears in the diff
only due to whitespace or structural reformatting (e.g., removing a with: block),
treat it as unchanged. Contributors should not feel obligated to address
pre-existing issues outside the scope of their contribution.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The audio save path now selects channel-count layouts for Opus and FLAC streams. MP3 encoding uses explicit mono or stereo layouts. Audio frames use contiguous channel-major floating-point data in planar format. Parametrized tests validate FLAC, Opus, and MP3 output with multiple channel counts, decoded durations, and channel layouts.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 6427a

This localized change preserves multichannel audio layouts in previews while maintaining existing mono/stereo MP3 behavior. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains beyond normal checks and review.

🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 5
✅ Passed checks (5 passed)
Check name Status Explanation
Title check ✅ Passed The title clearly identifies the primary change: preserving multichannel audio layout in previews.
Description check ✅ Passed The description directly explains the multichannel preview bug, implementation, and validation.
Linked Issues check ✅ Passed The changes address issue #15816 by preserving channel layouts and preventing incorrect preview duration and playback speed.
Out of Scope Changes check ✅ Passed The implementation and regression tests remain within the linked issue scope.
Docstring Coverage ✅ Passed Docstring check was indeterminate for this PR — some files could not be analyzed in time. Not blocking.
