Nominate @booxter

I would like to nominate myself, Ihar Hrachyshka (@booxter), for nixpkgs committer access.

I started using Nix seriously around late 2023, and my real nixpkgs contributions picked up in 2024. I started mostly as a Darwin user and contributor, with my first major piece of work being Firefox/Thunderbird and related Mozilla packages on Darwin. Nix has since become how I run my personal machines (both Darwin and Linux), homelab, and some work infrastructure, which naturally broadened the work I do in nixpkgs from Darwin fixes into packages and infrastructure I rely on day to day.

I have:

  • authored 238 merged PRs
  • reviewed 210 PRs and participated in 314 PRs I did not author
  • maintain or co-maintain packages such as firefox/thunderbird on Darwin, openvswitch, ovn, podman-desktop, llama-cpp, llama-cpp-python, mlx, pypdfium2, ramalama, gpclient, openapi-generator-cli, and helm-unittest.

Areas where I have done sustained work include:

  • Miscellaneous Darwin support (Firefox, Heimdal, NUT, Xorg / XQuartz)
  • Networking, containers, and infra packages such as openvswitch, ovn, podman-desktop, krunkit, and gpclient
  • Python, AI, and developer tooling such as llama-cpp, llama-cpp-python, mlx, ramalama, pypdfium2, fromager, and openapi-generator-cli

Representative work of varying complexity:

Apart from nixpkgs, I contribute to related projects like nix-darwin, home-manager, nixpkgs-review and others.

Numbers wise, I am not the most prolific reviewer. I do not try to review everything. I tend to review where I have enough context to give useful feedback, test the change, and follow through when there is fallout.

Committer access would let me close the loop on straightforward, reviewed fixes and updates in areas I already maintain or actively follow, and help other contributors land improvements to those packages without an extra handoff.
